Communications Manager
Leading law firm
London
Hybrid working
Newly created role
My client, a highly regarded law firm, is investing further in its communications capability with the creation of a new Communications Manager role. The firm combines a strong market reputation with an open, collaborative culture where people are trusted to contribute ideas and develop their expertise. This would be an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Communications Executive looking to step up or an established Communications Manager wanted to make more of an impact.
The role offers the opportunity to shape how the firm takes its expertise, achievements and market insight to a wider audience. Working within an established Business Development and Marketing team, the successful candidate will create distinctive content and campaigns that strengthen the firm’s profile, engage clients and support business growth.
There is already a strong pipeline of ideas and opportunities across the firm. The Communications Manager will provide the additional expertise needed to turn these into coordinated, commercially focused campaigns, helping the firm make more of its knowledge and successes and build greater visibility within its priority markets.
Reporting to a highly supportive Senior Communications Manager, this person will work closely with stakeholders across the firm to develop engaging content and campaigns, while supporting PR and media activity where required. The role would suit an accomplished writer who combines creative judgement with a clear understanding of how communications can contribute to commercial objectives.
Key responsibilities:
- Turn the firm’s legal insight, client work and wider achievements into content that is relevant to its target audiences and supports commercial priorities.
- Develop and deliver campaigns from the initial idea through to content creation, distribution and analysis.
- Build productive relationships across the firm to uncover stories, expertise and emerging issues with the potential to generate market interest.
- Bring forward ideas based on changes in the legal, commercial and sector landscape, helping the firm respond to developments while they remain timely.
- Shape thought leadership that makes complex subjects accessible without losing their authority or substance.
- Create and commission content across a range of formats, selecting the most effective channel and approach for each audience.
- Work with digital colleagues to increase the visibility and reach of the firm’s content, informed by SEO, GEO and evolving search behaviour.
- Use website and engagement information to assess what is resonating, identify missed opportunities and improve future campaigns.
- Help practices without dedicated agency support make effective use of relevant media opportunities and respond appropriately to journalist interest.
- Support communications around awards, major matters and other firm developments, adapting the message and format to suit the intended audience.
- Coordinate with external PR advisers where appropriate, maintaining consistency across the firm’s communications activity.
- Contribute to wider initiatives across social media, internal communications, events and corporate activity when needed.
The successful candidate:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to take detailed, specialist or technical information and find the clearest and most compelling way to communicate it, while maintaining accuracy and credibility.
- Experience delivering content, thought leadership or integrated campaigns within a professional services environment.
- Strong editorial judgement and a high level of accuracy across writing, editing and proofreading.
- A commercial outlook, with the ability to connect communications activity to audience engagement, market visibility and business opportunities.
- The curiosity to follow current affairs, changing client priorities and sector developments, then turn these into relevant campaign ideas.
- Confidence working with senior stakeholders, asking effective questions and drawing out the most useful insight.
- The ability to move several projects forward at once while protecting the quality of the final output.
- An informed understanding of digital content and how search, AI and changing audience behaviour affect its reach.
- Some exposure to PR and media work, or a willingness to develop this experience as part of a broader communications remit.
Why join?
- This is an opportunity to join a communications function that has already demonstrated its value and now has the backing to grow further. The successful candidate will enter a team with a clear purpose, good ideas and engaged stakeholders, with the freedom to help the firm make more of the expertise and successes already present across the business.
- The role provides broad exposure across the firm’s practices and sectors. It offers ownership from the earliest stages of an idea through to delivery and analysis, with support from an experienced manager and colleagues across BD, digital and Knowledge. It should appeal to someone who wants their writing and ideas to have visible impact rather than simply servicing a fixed schedule of communications.
- My client offers a flexible hybrid working model.
