My client is an ambitious law firm with a clear strategy in place to support an exciting period of growth. With well-established strengths across business services, real estate and private wealth, they are now looking for a Senior Business Development Manager who can help turn strategic intent into measurable progress. The role will be based in Birmingham and will support offices in central England, working closely with partners to strengthen key relationships and drive new opportunities.

 

The Opportunity

This is a visible, commercially focused role at the heart of the firm’s growth plans. Working alongside partners and sector leads, the Senior Business Development Manager will concentrate on the activity that genuinely moves the dial:

 

Strengthening key client relationships

  • Developing practical plans for priority clients and ensuring consistent delivery.
  • Identifying opportunities to broaden relationships across practice areas.
  • Using client feedback, insight and data to support engagement and retention.
  • Helping refine the firm’s approach to client experience.

 

Creating and converting new opportunities

  • Designing targeted BD programmes that generate high quality conversations.
  • Supporting partners to prioritise prospects and progress them effectively.
  • Leading the development of clear, compelling pitches and proposals.
  • Ensuring strong pipeline discipline and follow through.

 

Building a high performing intermediary network

  • Establishing structured engagement with accountants, advisers and referrers.
  • Creating a reliable flow of introductions that support growth.
  • Helping partners expand and strengthen their own networks.
  • Developing activity that builds visibility across chosen markets.

 

Shaping and aligning strategy

  • Working with sector leads to focus effort where the market is moving.
  • Bringing external insight on trends and competitor activity.
  • Supporting sector positioning, profile raising and market facing initiatives.
  • Playing a key role in delivering the firm’s 3 year growth strategy.

 

Providing reporting that informs decisions

  • Keeping close oversight of pipelines and activity.
  • Using CRM and data to highlight priorities and opportunities.
  • Providing concise reporting that supports planning and accountability.

About You

My client is looking for someone who brings a blend of experience, credibility and personal impact. You will have:

  • Strong BD experience within professional services, ideally legal.
  • A track record of developing clients and originating new opportunities.
  • Confidence working closely with partners and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to think strategically.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
  • Experience managing bids, tenders and more complex pursuits.
  • Confidence using CRM and data led BD approaches.
  • Comfort working across multiple offices and managing varied stakeholder needs.
  • A relationship led, commercially sharp and proactive approach.
  • The ability to influence without noise and collaborate effectively.
  • A structured, organised style with a clear focus on outcomes.
  • A positive, adaptable attitude as the firm continues to grow.
