Reporting to the London-based Financial Controller this role has responsibility for a mix of tasks to support the strategic growth of the business and manage the accounting for the firm’s property portfolio. There will be involvement in change projects such as financial modelling for the impact of lateral hire partners, mergers with other firms as well as premises related projects such as budget and cash flow preparation ahead of the firm’s move into new head office premises. There will also be liaison with the firms’ bankers and tax advice and working with business managers in the firm.

 

Working collaboratively with other team members across the business, responsibilities will include:

 

  • Financial modelling for new Partner or team hires, and for potential acquisitions.
  • Preparation of budget and reforecast data for the Firm’s premises and related costs and managing costs against those budgets- including review and approval of invoices & costs related to premises.
  • Involvement in the financial aspects of lease renewal/new premises take on.
  • Preparation of property service charge workings related to the sub-letting of London space and liaison with the third party who manage this for us.
  • Involvement in capital allowance reviews and similar tax reviews.
  • Liaison with the Firm’s relationship banks on general funding matters and on Partner capital loan funding, and communicating to the Partner group on capital related matters.
  • Quarterly reporting to the Bank to ensure compliance with the Firm’s bank covenants and financial modelling for any new funding decisions.
  • Liaison with external tax advisers in managing the Firm’s international tax footprint.

 

 

The Project Accountant will also be involved in other ad-hoc projects as and when they arise such as set up of new offices.

 

Requirements for Role

 

We are looking for a someone on the path to qualification, who will be a professional, self-motivated and positive individual who is able to demonstrate:

 

  • Excellent organisational skills with a proven track record in forward planning and managing their own time to ensure deadlines for a wide variety of activities are met in a timely and effective manner;
  • An ability to actively engage in the business, through strong verbal communication skills and a pro-active approach to identifying and putting in place process improvements;
  • A good understanding of practice management / accounting systems, and MS Excel; and
  • Excellent attention to detail, a focus on accuracy and a track record of delivering high quality outputs, balanced with pragmatic approach to meeting deadlines; and an enthusiastic and flexible approach with a ‘can do’ attitude.
