Head of Strategic Planning

International Law firm

Location – London, Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, or Birmingham

Salary – market rate and competitive package

My client, an ambitious international law firm, is looking for a Head of Strategic Planning.  This hire can be based in any of their main UK offices and will work directly with the COO and management committee to implement more structure and analytics to their firm-wide business planning process.

The firm has had a Strategic Planning team for a couple of years, but are looking to upskill and hire more experienced professionals to help really drive the firm’s strategy to each corner of the firm.  The Head of Strategic Planning will build their own team, likely 2-3 people, and also oversee how the firm’s purpose is integrated into their planning processes firm-wide.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have significant business/strategic planning experience, ideally from a law firm or professional services environment

  • Have a diplomatic approach, and proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders

  • Be interested in how law firms operate, their potential and opportunity to innovate

  • Be skilled in bringing people together with a common goal, keeping the firm-wide strategy in mind

  • Have experience applying analytics and structure to business planning (ideally from a senior position operating across practice/service lines/business services groups, rather than from within one business area)

  • Have experience building and managing a team

Unfortunately, my client is set on hiring someone with at least some in-house experience, ideally in professional services, rather than a consultant's first role in-house.  This is as it’s a newly created role, and they’re relying on someone with deep, first-hand understanding of a partnership environment to navigate strategic planning across a multinational firm.
