I am delighted to be working with a leading global law firm and assisting in the recruitment of a Director, Accounting & Finance Operations – EMEA. This role demands a thorough understanding of accounting principles and regulations, the ability to drive process improvements within the finance function, and effective communication across all levels of the firm.

This role is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of financial activities within the EMEA region. This team operates across 25 offices, with a core group based in London. Reporting to the Global Director of Finance Operations & Systems, this role works closely with the Director of Financial Management and the Regional Chief Operating Officer, managing both direct and indirect reports in most regional offices. Key responsibilities include overseeing the accounting function, ensuring compliance with all statutory and regulatory financial reporting requirements, managing risk, and optimizing finance operations to support organizational goals. The Director collaborates with the Internal Audit team to address audit findings, supports the financial integration of new offices and office closures, and handles special projects and new initiatives.

The Director of Accounting & Finance Operations – EMEA is responsible for the timely submission of financial statements and tax submissions across all entities in the region, ensuring the smooth operation and continuous improvement of the financial control environment. This role involves providing support, mentoring, and leadership to local finance teams, and managing key stakeholders to enhance operational effectiveness. Key duties include designing and implementing policies and procedures for accurate and timely financial information, supporting the financial integration of new and closing offices, and ensuring statutory and audit compliance. The Director also leads internal audit remediation, oversees Treasury, Accounting, Audit, Payroll, and AP functions, and supports innovation and client service within EMEA offices. Additionally, they manage reporting and control processes, provide leadership and coaching to finance managers, review and improve staff capabilities, and ensure the attraction and retention of skilled finance professionals to maintain a highly capable EMEA finance team.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the challenges of working across multiple markets and a proven ability to operate at a senior executive level with maturity and confidence. They should have extensive exposure to financial accounting across diverse markets and prior experience managing both local and remote teams. Strong time management skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure while juggling multiple tasks, and experience in a professional services environment are essential. The candidate should also have a history of dealing with senior stakeholders, working autonomously, and demonstrating excellent written and oral communication skills across all levels. A proven track record of planning and delivering against objectives is crucial.
