About the firm
My client is a top‑100 UK law firm, recently recognised with major industry accolades for both its independent excellence and its outstanding culture. With deep roots in London and a long-standing commitment to social justice, the firm advises a diverse client base—from well-known consumer brands and media organisations to leading charities, landmark institutions and community groups. Its specialists are consistently acknowledged by peers and clients in the legal directories, and the firm’s current strategy is delivering sustained, upward growth. Business development and client service sit at the heart of this trajectory, with an expanded leadership team in place to accelerate progress and embed best practice across the partnership.
The opportunity
This role suits an energetic, organised and curious Business Development (BD) professional who enjoys variety, visibility and collaboration. Based in Putney and working across all three London offices, the BD Executive will partner closely with senior stakeholders and lawyers to deliver high-impact, targeted business development activity across multiple departments. Reporting to the BD Manager and working alongside the Head of BD, the post holder will help drive work-winning initiatives, strengthen client and referrer relationships, and support a growing programme of events and campaigns.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with fee‑earners and department leads to plan and deliver BD activity that reaches defined target audiences, embedding client/referrer relationship management best practice.
- Support on tenders, capability statements and other work‑winning opportunities—co‑ordinating inputs, shaping compelling content, ensuring timely delivery and obtaining feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Act as a connector across departments—spotting cross‑sell opportunities, joining up conversations and facilitating collaboration that leads to new mandates.
- Contribute to firmwide and department‑specific BD initiatives and projects, working with multiple teams to maintain momentum and measure impact.
- Lead proactive and opportunistic research projects—building target lists, market maps and insights that equip lawyers and teams to secure new work.
- Serve as the gateway between lawyers and the wider Marketing & BD function—clarifying who does what, championing effective BD approaches and signposting colleagues to the right support.
- Support targeted events and mailings—focusing on the right audiences, well-crafted messages, and event execution that creates tangible follow‑up and work‑winning opportunities.
Person specification
- Experience within a business development and/or marketing function—ideally in professional services (law, consultancy, accountancy or similar), but related backgrounds (e.g., research, marketing) with clear BD interest are welcome.
- Exposure to client‑facing materials—such as proposals, credentials or bid support—with an understanding of what resonates with decision‑makers.
- Strong stakeholder skills—confident, collaborative and responsive, with the energy to work across different practice areas and seniority levels.
- Clear and persuasive communicator—able to distil information, challenge constructively and be viewed as a go‑to person for BD best practice.
- A team player who is curious about the full marketing and BD mix and eager to contribute beyond their immediate remit.
- Ambitious and proactive—keen to make a positive impact within a growing team and to develop their career in a firm that offers progression.
Working pattern
The role involves working across the firm’s London offices as required, with a minimum on‑site presence of three days per week.
Progression
For the right candidate, there is a clear pathway for advancement as the team and firm continue to grow.
Rewards and benefits
My client offers a competitive salary and a generous benefits package.
